Dear Fossilist Supporters,
This month, we're thrilled to share a sneak peek into our recent shoot at the Smithsonian Institution with the esteemed Dr. Hans Sues.
Our film crew recently flew from Colorado to Washington D.C., eager to capture the insights of Dr. Sues, the Senior Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Smithsonian. This interview is a cornerstone of our film, providing a crucial academic perspective in the ongoing dialogue between commercial and academic paleontologists.
During our day with Dr. Sues, director Abby Pellien delved into a wide range of topics. We explored the importance of extensive education in paleontological research, with Dr. Sues sharing stories of his most exciting projects and fieldwork experiences. His eyes lit up as he recounted discoveries that have shaped our understanding of prehistoric life.
A highlight of our visit was a "walk and talk" through the museum. Dr. Sues guided us through the exhibits and into the collections, showing us his favorite specimens with the enthusiasm of a child on a fossil hunt. His passion for preserving these prehistoric treasures was palpable and inspiring.
Bridging the Gap
Throughout our conversation, a key theme emerged: the need for collaboration between academic and commercial paleontologists. Dr. Sues emphasized that curiosity is at the heart of paleontology, regardless of one's background. This aligns perfectly with our film's mission to show that the love of dinosaurs can unite us all.
As we continue to explore the question "Who Owns the Dinosaurs?", interviews like this one with Dr. Sues provide valuable perspectives on the future of paleontology and the importance of making this fascinating field accessible to everyone.
